Walls of external raised planters often require a waterproofing membrane internally, to prevent dampness from the planting medium reaching the external face and spoiling the aesthetic nature of the design. If irrigation pipes are required, consideration should be given to sealing around these.
The membrane in a planter should be protected against damage, during filling and garden maintenance, with root barriers incorporated where necessary.
